This route is more about Croatian hidden gems and most beautiful places in the region than about places most visited by tourists. On this campervan road trip are going to explore two countries, natural wonders, scenic roads, old cities, coast and inland, National parks, islands, crystal clear sea, culture, cuisine, history and many more.
We made and experienced this campervan road trip personally and it is definitely one of our favorites. We were also surprised how beautiful Croatia really is.
If you’re short in time, skip or shorten your stay in some places. If you have more time, prolong your stay in some places. We highly recommend visiting all and couldn’t decide which place to skip on this tour.

Start your campervan road trip in European capital of culture 2020 – Rijeka. Spend a day or two in exploring its unusual history, charming city center, war tunnels, old factories and get the true local feeling without many tourists.

Enjoy your fresh breakfast made in campervan and head south towards the city of Zadar (230km). Using the highway can save you time but please experience one of Europe’s most beautiful roads – Jadranska Magistrala or Adriatic Highway and you will be rewarded with a wonderful scenery of the Adriatic Sea and islands during the whole trip. Jadranska Magistrala is running all the way to Dubrovnik! Normally you need 4 hours to get to Zadar but take it easy, enjoy the view and make many stops. There are plenty of amazing viewpoints along the road. Wonderful sights it offers are unforgetable. 40 km before Zadar is National park Paklenica. If you like climbing or hiking you’ll love Paklenica, which has the most popular walls in the country and 200 kilometres of trails. Spend a night in our partner’s campsite near Obrovac and save 15%. Continue your road trip using Jadranska Magistrala and enjoy beautiful views of Mount Biokovo, the sea and the islands. After 52km make a stop in Ploče and explore Baćina Lakes. Go cycling, paddling or kayaking and take a swim in some of the hidden lagoons. Lose all senses of direction in the sound of cricket symphony and appreciate watching the wildlife of the lakes. This area is covered by million mandarin plants, which begin to ripen at the beginning of September. After trying fresh mandarins or some of mandarin products, proceed campervan road trip 57km to Ston and stop in for a short while on the way to the wine region of the Pelješac Peninsula. Make sure you have your passport with you, because you need to cross the Bosnian border on the way to Ston. Ston is well known for the Walls of Ston which are known as the “European Walls of China” and they are in length next to the Great Wall of China! Opposite the town of Ston lies the oldest Salt Works still operating in Europe. Don’t forget to try fresh mussels while you’re here.
Take a day for exploring Pelješac peninsula. This beautiful and quite place is rich with vegetation, the groves of pine and cypress, lemon, fig and almond trees. Vineyards of the Peljesac Peninsula are famous in Croatia and are considered by many to produce the country’s finest wines. The best-known wine is Dingač (pronounced Ding-ach) a red wine produced round the slopes of Postup, Dingac and Orebic. There are many wineries where you can try some of the best Croatian wines. Day 16 and 17
Head towards Bosnian capital and a city of thousand tales – Sarajevo (130km). Historical attractions, natural beauty and unique experience of a place where „East meets West“ are good reasons not to skip Sarajevo. Summer is the time when the city lives twenty-four seven; so spend at least two days here. Learn about sad history of Sarajevo, enjoy friendly local atmosphere and definitely try everything Bosian cuisine has to offer (burek, baklava,…). It’s delicious.
Day 18 and 19
Long 400km drive to Croatian capital is in front of you so make sure you have had enough sleep! Zagreb is a great place to escape from tourists and meet some locals. Walk round the old city, visit many museums (don’t skip Museum of Broken Relationships), admire beautiful buildings, churches and architecture and find out why it is called an „Old city with a young soul“. There are many charming cafes, bars and restaurants.
